Perfect Test Prep Practice

Sylvia Barsotti Dear Earline,

I’ve always found at just about this time into the school year, when the teachers begin to pile on the homework and introduce new concepts in the classroom, you can tell which subjects your child can handle and which he’ll need help with. To that end, this month you’ll find workbooks and reference books to help build your home library. As you know, it all begins with reading.

Here’s to raising a reader!

Sylvia

HELP KIDS COPE WITH CHANGE KITCHEN TABLE REVIEWSSPEND TIME IN THE STACKS
What Can I Do? My Journal for Caring and Sharing in Tough Times is a tool to help children develop coping skills for these rocky economic times. Family and parenting expert Denise Daniels provides activities to guide children in learning to identify, express, and manage feelings of loss and change. In a letter to parents she explains, “By sharing this journal with your children, you will encourage them to celebrate change, growth, and family, and remind them that with every ending comes a new beginning!” You can download the book here.
One mom, two kids, three opinions: Listen in as writer/mother/blogger Mir Kamin and her children discuss books. You'll want to know what they're reading and what they think! Recently, the family tackled Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally) by Lisa Lee. See what the family has to say about this tale of Bobby's former best friend who turns all the girls against him in this story guaranteed to appeal to tweens of both genders. They also recently tackled Amulet Book Two: The Stonekeeper’s Curse, a graphic novel full of suspense and awesome artwork. The family calls it “a must for fantasy lovers.”
The Stacks is the place for kids ages 7-14 who love to read, and want to meet other kids who are also wild about books. Your child can create an avatar, make a profile, connect on the message boards, play games, take polls, watch videos, enter contests and more. She’ll stay on top of the latest news in the world of books, being among the first to hear about sequel announcements, author tour dates, author interviews, sneak peeks of upcoming releases and more.
